Good luck with your ads I read you thru an rss reader, so I don’t see them unless I click thru and come visit your site directly (a hint if you don’t want that to happen? you can customize your rss feed to only publish the 1st few lines in an rss reader and then your readers will have to visit your site to read the rest. i HATE this personally–i prefer being able to read everything thru my rss reader, but it can help you if you’re looking to boost traffic for your ads or gauge readership.)

Since you asked for opinions on advertising on knitting blogs… Personally I think that adsense ads are not worth it for any small blogs or sites. Your first revenue must hit $100 to see your first check, and while google doesn’t tell how how much cpc you’ll earn (I’ve seen guesses from 2 cents to a few $ per click), I’d have to imagine that targeted ads generated form a knitting blog would be on the lower end of that (as opposed to say a s-e-x blog, or an electronics blog, where commissions would be higher). All the while you’ve got the space rented on your site which may or not be making you money, and also works to promote without pay (visitors have to click thru on your ads, but they *see* the ads when they visit– your visitors may see text KPs ads on your site but never click thru, but those visual impressions are promoting the sites without recompense.)

There are other targeted marketing ideas out there that are customizable to you– say, amazon’s associates program, earning 4% on directly targeted ads you place (say in text links when you review or mention a knitting book or digital scale), or even a larger place like commission junction where you can apply with companies directly to run their ads (most have text links available for use, not just banners), though the crossover btw their products & a knitting blog may be a stretch.
