A Sock for my Uncle

This was the beginning of a Christmas present for one of my uncles. I was going to knit this for Uncle #1, and a fantastically self-designed moose sock would go to Uncle #2. (He once got into a stand-off with a moose. It’s a long story.) Then I suddenly realized that it sucks to get socks for Christmas (unless you’re an obsessive knitter), and I decided to repurpose it for someone else.
The question is this: I still want to make a pair of moose socks for Uncle #2, but Uncle #1 will now be getting a DVD. The inequality of these gifts (the DVD is cooler but has less effort behind it) bothers me. Do I knit the moose socks?
Advice please!

I’ve always thought that gifts (especially for family members) have two sides: one side is how much the gift will be appreciated/enjoyed, the other side is how much of yourself you put into it. If your uncle will appreciate the moose socks, and the effort you put into them, go for it! If not, knit them for yourself

I agree with Barbara. Some families put a price limit on a gift these days. My stepchildren all said … “gift from a Dollar store OR homemade” … of course they had my knitting in mind I think. *smile*

I agree with Barbara too. But if your uncles don’t appreciate a good moose sock, I’ll take em!

I would be afraid of causing a throw-down between the Uncles if only one of them gets hand made socks (hand made socks being the Very Coolest Present Ever in the History of the World, in my opinion). But everyone is different. If Moose Uncle will appreciate them, then make them by all means. And if he won’t, I am sure that there are at least two dozen knitters who would riot to claim a nice pair of moose socks. At the very least, we would like to see the pattern.
