I am suddenly so obsessed with Nordic knitting
Saturday, January 20th, 2007Tags: Future Knitting Plans, Mittens, Patterns by Me
It started with Tvåändsstickning. Then I found these Norwegian baby mittens, which a) made me look at Rauma patterns for 3 hours, and b) made my uterus grow by at least 3 sizes. It got worse when I rediscovered the largest repository of Norwegian patterns ever. But now I’m done for, girls; just a tiny glance at this post made me scream (in my head) Selbustrikk! Selbustrikk! Where do I get this Selbustrikk! And I’m looking at the booklet and there’s Herrstrumpa and Damstrumpa and the Herrstrumpa look like they should be Damstrumpa and I think I’m going to DIE OF HILARITY AND ALSO NORDIC KNITTING.
“She died happy,” they will say.
(PS: Here are some other mittens I just found. Yet another reason to buy into Zimmermania.)

Now we need to see a picture of the ones you’re making. I wonder if those mitten patterns come in English also. I just LOVE them. I have Zimmerman’s Knitting Around so I will have to deffinantly check ‘em out to do for my Mitten KAL. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I so want a pair of Fair Isle mittens.

Is there something wrong with being obsessed with a particular knit? I can’t to see yours!

Oh my, Rhonda! Have you found the Norwegian hard at all? Hopefully they have charts. Do they have charts?
This is a preemptive comment for when you receive the books.

The Selbustrikk pattern book has charts for everything and the written directions aren’t too hard to figure out. I found lists of Norwegian knitting terms here and here.
