Pretty in PinkThis feels like it has been ages in the making, and I suppose it has. Craziness around exam and Christmastime meant that prize-announcing had to be postponed. But now I’ve got the final contestant list! The wiener will be announced soon. Here’s a final bit of link-love to the wonderful and generous contestants in the Pretty in Pink Contest:

This brings the final total (along with my 3 donations) to… 19. Hm. Did I miss something? I thought there were 21… Oh well, that’s 10011 in binary. Wow, 10011 entries!

Stay tuned; the winner will be announced within the next few days. Who will it be??? Place your bets.

Whenever I have significant work to do that isn’t panic-worthy, I always end up blogging or playing around with Firefox* add-ons to avoid working take a break between work periods. Therefore, it is no surprise that I will be adding two new comment-love WordPress plugins to this site, both of which I found via John Chow.

The first, Subscribe to Comments 2.0, is a plugin I’d seen in action and wanted to use but never knew where it came from. It’s nothing huge; just a little check-box by the comment form that lets you subscribe to the given conversation by email. I’ve subscribed to email comments in this manner once or twice, so I know it works.

The second, Show Top Commentators, is a little reward for frequent commenters to my site. A list in the sidebar shows my top ten commenters as well as a link to their blog, meaning they’re rewarded with blog traffic as well as google-love. I really like this idea, because I can return the joy of getting a comment back to the commenter via the joy of getting a link. It’s implemented on my sidebar, check it out!

UPDATE, 5:48PM: Just FYI, I rewrote most of Show Top Commentators so that it would do what I wanted it to do. There were a few bugs involving the website filter and such, and I modified it to use email as a unique key instead of name.

So there’s some incentive to comment! I love getting them, and you’ll love leaving them! And that, my friends, makes a happy internet.

*Heehee! Firefox just spell-checked itself. L-O-L!

Quick Knitting Book Reviews

I stopped by Indigo a few days ago and $20 later I’d bought about half of my Christmas presents for next year. Hoorah! Of course I had to go by the knitting section, so here are two books I checked out and what I thought of them.

Knitting with BallsKnitting With Balls

This looks fantastic! There are quite a few patterns in here that I would knit for the beau. This would be more apt for the modern hipster /slash/ metrosexual than, say, a dairy farmer, but given that most patterns for stylish fellows suck butt, it’s a great addition to the male knitting library.

DomiknitrixDomiknitrix: Whip Your Knitting into Shape

I took a quick glance at this and it looks like it has some nice tips. There’s quite a bit of colour knitting in here, but the patterns aren’t really what I would imagine a Dominatrix to wear. On the pattern end of things, it was just another book. For a naughtier knit, try Naughty Needles: Sexy, Saucy Knits for the Bedroom and Beyond.
