Japanese Knitting Symbols

Fleegle’s Blog has a post about Japanese Knitting Symbols that’s quite interesting. She explains how such complicated cable representations as the following make any sense whatsoever.
Ah yes, I recognize this cable, although I was taught a slightly different version.
The famed ninja cable. Japanese knitting patterns are full of them.
PS: I strongly urge you to spend some time on this post. If your brain hurts, just step back and let your brain’s natural Gestalt grouping ability take over. It’s like one of those Magic Eye posters. Once you see how it works, you won’t be able to un-see it.
Um, I see you have tagged with Hilarity? the problem with Ninja cables is that they can’t be seen or heard until they are upon you. I like cables with a bit of notice, myself.

Japanese ninja cables! Awesome!
I stared at them for a few minutes and…I think I get it! Pretty cool and an amazingly efficient use of space.
