Stephen ColbertI wanted to mention this before leaving for tropical climes, but I’m glad I waited until getting back! If any of you folks watch The Colbert Report (and you should do so every day unless he’s on vacation or it’s a weekend, and in that case you should watch some reruns), you’ll know that The Fair Colbert disturbed his wrist a short time ago and is encouraging awareness of the misunderstood body part. To this end, he’s started a campaign called WristSTRONG, with silicone bracelets to boot.

I thought this awareness campaign would be especially important among the knitting community, seeing as our hands and wrists are quite complicit in the creation of our various garments and novelty dong warmers (yes, that’s two wang references in two consecutive blog posts!).* Since I’ve been gone and back, you can now buy a bracelet! They are oh so stylish and I want one.

Ah yes, and in case you hadn’t noticed, I am back from the Caribbean and from Florida, and I didn’t buy any yarn or anything but I did buy some astronaut oven mitts and I went SCUBA diving and it was INCREDIBLE! More for another post in the near future (once I get my 400 photos organized and uploaded), I just wanted to mention that and also assure all you folks that Hurricane Dean barely even rustled my tail feathers. Natch.

Oh yeah! And the most important part! I’m almost done the second sleeve of my sweater!

* To be serious for a moment: my mother has carpal tunnel and it’s no fun, so repetitive wrist strain can actually be quite detrimental. Do some exercises if you can, and if you’re lazy like me, just try to use as little hand movement as possible. Not only is it the best way to improve your speed, but it’s also easier on both your fingers and your wrists.

  1. I love his whole wrist strong campaign! It makes me laugh so hard. Do you have one? I want to marry Stephen Colbert.

  2. Stephen Colbert is #1 on my celebrity freebie list. Why is it always the catholics?

Sadly, I don’t yet have a WristStrong bracelet. I might buy one though, I have to convince myself it’s a good investment. Which I suppose it is, because the money goes to veterans.
