I’m so embarrassed.

(BTW, that is the best blogging tagline ever because really, who doesn’t want to hear about this or that embarrassing thing that so and so blogger has been involved in? After all, if we’re blogging it, IT MUST BE IMPORTANT.)

My parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I’m so embarrassed at the list of things I am thinking about. They are:

  • A Knitpicks Options set
  • A swift and/or yarn ball winder
  • Yarn
  • Maybe some acid dyes
  • That’s pretty much it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been bothering the beau to help me make a [theremin] for the past two years, but really all I want is some pointy interchangeable circulars and a way to ball yarn faster.

Swallow

Any of you folks heard of lov.li? It looks like a smaller site that does stuff similar to etsy, focusing mostly on jewelry. There are some nice things on here. At first glance, here’s a pretty Swooping Swallow Necklace. Most of the knitting is NFS, unfortch. (That’s “Not For Sale,” not “Not Safe For Work.” You can look at the knitting, don’t worry.) I like that there is the option to show your work without offering it for sale, which turns it into a half-blog, half-store. You can keep everything in one spot without having to sell everything off. Great for a pack rat like me!

Apologies for the lateness. Here’s the 22nd pattern day!

If you’ve written up a pattern and you want me to link to it, send me an email or leave me a comment and I’ll post it! It makes the list longer and my job easier.

Where’s The Beef?

Dancing Cowlol, remember “where’s the beef?” I sure don’t. I think I’m a year or two too young. Sigh.

This is my post about beef. My beefs, that is. I should mention before I start that sometimes I will get a little yell-y, but if you’re guilty of one of these things believe me when I say that I mean this is in the nicest way possible. Most of this is just venting. Venting and constructive criticism. I hope people who read this won’t get offended, but instead will stop doing the things that I talk about here. Mostly, I hope people will stop doing the things that I’m talking about happening on Flickr. Some of it is getting out of hand, and it’s only getting worse because people see it happening, think it’s ok, and start doing it themselves even if they a) know it’s not allowed or b) haven’t checked to make sure it’s allowed. So please, don’t be upset if I’ve offended you, I just have to get this off my chest. You’re welcome to start a discussion with me in the comments but if I get any responses that are overly unnecessary (swearing, death threats, yo momma jokes) I have every right to delete them or censor them. Children read this blog! This blog is very popular among babies who knit. Now, on to the griping )

POM POMS!!!

Categories: Hats, In Progress

I have been bitten by the pom pom bug. No, I haven’t made any pom poms yet, but I really really want to. Unfortunately, all my scissors have gone missing so I will have to put off the pom pomming until tomorrow afternoon, but when I start, boy howdy, you will NOT want to miss it.

Do you know how awesome this is? (And, I want to be clear, how not mine this is):

Pom Pom

It’s pretty ballin’, that’s for sure.

I just finished a hat (waiting to be photographed, it’s a little dark right now) and decided to top it with a pom, as I hear that’s the style these days. Also, I saw another girl wearing a hat similar to the one I had knit and hers had a pom, and it looked adorable. So I’m going to make a pom pom for my newly-finished hat. I’m playing around with the idea of a pom pom that is larger than the hat itself. A mega-pom, if you will. An ultra-pom. A colosso-pom. A pom so legendary, that I would constantly be accidentally hitting it on the underside of doorways. I’m not sure if it would be too top-heavy, or whether it would look dumb. Thoughts?

Saturday, Pattern Day #20: Straight Outta Montréal

I’m blogging from Montreal using Liz’s wifi. Thank you, Liz! She’s showering right now so I am free to Internet without guilt. Then, poutine and shopping on Rue Ste-Catherine. Yay!

Saturday, Pattern Day #19

Late again! I’ve been doing lots of TA work this week and by the end of the day I’m just wanting to sleep. Being a grad student has severely decreased my blogging energy, or blognergy as I like to call it. Even my wordplay is tired.

If you are knitting or have already knit a pattern that I’m talking about, leave me a comment and I’ll update my post with a link to your version. If you’ve written up a pattern and you want me to link to it, send me an email or leave me a comment and I’ll post it! It makes the list longer and my job easier.

  • Ollie is an octopus with a giant head, which is mega-adorable.
  • Squiddy is less adorable, but you take what you can get from cephalopod knitting patterns.
  • A girl emailed me asking for fishnet patterns, so I dug some up: Fishnet Stockings from Vogue-Knit Series No. 35 (1940s), Mesh Stockings, and Lolita from Knitty.
  • This Celtic Cable Scarf is a looker.
  • Got some sweaters already knit up but don’t want to wear them? Make yourself a Sweater Blanket.
  • Here’s a chart for the Enslaved logo; I’m assuming they’re a metal band, so that’s for all the metalheads out there.
  • Two Pomatomus fingerless gloves patterns: one at tingletangle and one at craftoholic. Example here. Gorgeous.
  • If all you know to do is a square, you can still make a fantastically adorable bunny! I love it. I’m going to make a thousand of them. Example here!
  • I don’t know what Clangers are, but they’re adorable. Check out the description for Major Clanger: “He is the head of the family. He is called Major because he is the largest and the oldest and most important of the Clangers. His coat is made of beaten brass like armour but he does not fight. His armour is to protect him from things that fall from the sky.” Heehee! Example here.
