Saturday, Pattern Day #37

If you are knitting or have already knit a pattern that I’m talking about, leave me a comment and I’ll update my post with a link to your version. If you’ve written up a pattern and you want me to link to it, send me an email or leave me a comment and I’ll post it! It makes the list longer and my job easier.

  • If you’ve ever wished you were Anne Shirley (I was so happy my parents made sure my middle name was Anne with an “e”), you’ll want to knit this sweater. Global Warming has puffed sleeves! And a message to protect our planet. Which I am assuming Anne would have supported.
  • I found a bunch of patterns from Canary Knits that are oh-so-stylish and I want to knit them! Oh my I want to knit them. There’s a modified Garn Studio Jacket, a cowl sweater (which I think is cute, but which I agree has a cowl that’s too wide), Canary Armwarmers, an argyle in angora called Le Lapin Noir (Eee!) and The Anne Elliot, which was a featured pattern on Ravelry this week.
  • Isn’t this Offset Wraplan adooooooorable?
  • I like this Binary Cable Hat, but if anyone knows of a link to this pattern that isn’t within Ravelry, I’d appreciate hearing about it. I prefer to link to patterns that aren’t password protected :)
  • Here’s a Kidz Crown and Ring. (I added the “Z”.)
  • These Socks of Kindness are ziggety zaggety.
  • Here’s a Lacey Garden Ascot, example here.
  • More belated Easterness: a Chocolate Easter Bunny.
  • This “Amigurumi Tiny Turtle” looks a lot like Sheldon, but Sheldon is never mentioned which is kind of lame.

Enough with the crafted music videos!

It seems like there is a new one every week. Whereas the last ones seemed to have at least some soul (like here and here), this new embroidered music video by Architecture in Helsinki doesn’t appear to have very much of anything.

Architecture in Helsinki feels like another one of those bands that sounds like your brother made it on a Casio in his basement in ’85 and someone picked it up and rerecorded it with slightly better production values and sold it to a distributor by saying “Napoleon Dynamite” a lot.

The embroidery itself is very nice, but they took a lot of shortcuts by just CGI-ing the motion so it doesn’t seem like there’s enough effort involved. That shouldn’t be my reaction, I know, but it is. There doesn’t seem to be a real concept here; it feels like it’s just embroidered to take advantage of the DYI aesthetic. The previous videos were real works of art; this video is just a bunch of spinning coconuts.

A Very Special Episode of Saturday, Pattern Day (#36)!

My stats class ended on Wednesday, and my taxes were done on Thursday. 110 participants have completed my study, which means that a goal of 200 is not unrealistic! (My undying thanks to all you wonderful folks who helped me reach that number! You guys are the best!) Suffice it to say, there are many things I have to celebrate this week, so I will do so with a return of Saturday, Pattern Day, in a glorious mega-edition! Two days late, but twice as glorious! Hold on to your f-ing hats, citizens!

If you are knitting or have already knit a pattern that I’m talking about, leave me a comment and I’ll update my post with a link to your version. If you’ve written up a pattern and you want me to link to it, send me an email or leave me a comment and I’ll post it! It makes the list longer and my job easier.

More after the jump.
