Plumeria

I want to make some Plumerias just like these. My family went to Hawaii a few years ago and we brought one of these plants back with us (don’t worry, they were specifically travel safe, we checked*), because we thought they were so lovely. It’s still growing away, not yet old enough to sprout blooms but I’m hoping it will before I’m 50. Canada is not as bright and hot as Hawaii, but we try!

* One of the great things about travelling in and out of Canada is that our guide to declaration of goods when returning to Canada is called “I Declare,” which must always be intoned as if one is a Southern Belle.

Ice Cream Gyoza

Reblogging this delicious Ice Cream Gyoza idea. Oh man, does that sound delicious or what?

I’ve been slouching a bit on the blogging front, which is entirely the fault of my PhD. But I have a few surprises soon, including a fawning post about my new computer*, a series of posts on my wonderful vacation and a few FOs.

In the meantime, I think I’m going to buy a gyoza press.

Ice Cream Gyoza Press

* My new computer will have the handy feature where I can press a button that actually starts the computer instead of a button that lies and pretends it will start but then doesn’t, and then you have to manually shut it off because the hard drive is spinning but not responding, and then try turning it on again, and then off, and then on, and then off, all the while hoping for a glimpse of that dearest apple icon that means that it is actually doing something, and never seeing it, which I am experiencing at this very moment, and have been for the last 2 hours. All thanks to this guy. I never did get any compensation for the destruction of my computer by Modern Taxi. I reiterate: if you live in Kingston, NEVER use Modern Taxi.

I’ve been in Europe for 3 weeks and I just got back. I’ve had another insane month but I wanted to check in a little bit. This isn’t fibre-related but they are animal- producing- fibre- related: here are some instructions for making rice balls look like sheep!

Craft Sound Tip #1:

If you want to mimic the sound of aliens communicating via subfrequencial televibrations, walk around with a small cellophane bag filled tightly with googly eyes.

Jennifer Morris Styling

They’ve already been sold, but check out this eye candy by Jennifer Morris! Not only is it beautiful to look at, but you can learn a lot about styling by looking at the various images for each set of jewelry. The various backgrounds used above highlight different aspects of the objects, and I love the effect of what looks like a lensbaby (or something similar, judging from the chromatic aberration). Absolutely gorgeous images.
