Sseko Brown Sseko Starboard

I know it’s the recession, and I’m a poor grad student with no money who just spent thousands of dollars on a big trip and a laptop and will soon be shelling out major bucks for new teeth, but I think I’m going to buy these shoes. The only thing holding me back is that I don’t know which size to buy. They’re made by these ladies in Africa and they look super comfy. This summer I had a crazy time trying to find comfortable flat sandals to wear during day-long walks in Europe (I ended up finding them a few days before the end of the trip), so my brain is still wired to obsess over sandals. You see, if I buy these, I am doing myself a favour because then I will have two pairs of fashionable flats to wear in the heat next summer. I’m just planning ahead.

Dressing Up Box

These images are quite dreamy, but also comical because it looks like the lady on the left has a giant fleshy cyst on her head which she is riding, James-and-the-giant-peach-style toward Manhattan and all the potential friends therein.

I’ve been in Europe for 3 weeks and I just got back. I’ve had another insane month but I wanted to check in a little bit. This isn’t fibre-related but they are animal- producing- fibre- related: here are some instructions for making rice balls look like sheep!

Rowan Lima

Wanted to throw this one out there in case there is a knit blogger on earth who doesn’t read brooklyn tweed. Rowan Lima is constructed as i-cord, taming alpaca fibres and, I imagine, making for some interesting texture. Will I restrain my tight-fistedness enough to buy a ball… or two? Only time will tell.

Retrofit your mitts!

I am a little late on this one, but I’ve only now caught up with all my blog reading! Here is a great suggestion on how to retrofit your mitts! I’ll have to try this on my current mittens, as they are cold enough to freeze your Winnebago.

Ode to my Yarn Winder

Categories: Yarn Porn and Other Stuff Porn

I am on a winding binge. I can’t stop. And I’m considering buying or making myself a swift. Yarn winders are a gateway tool.

I couldn’t resist putting my little yarn cakes on a dessert tray. Forgive me.

Limited Time Offer! Used Yarn Winder for Full Price!

Yarn Winder

Hey guys! Check out this great sale! For a limited time, you can buy the display model yarn winder for $67 at Wool Tyme! Want to avoid a discount because it’s been used? Want to pay approximately twice what you would pay in the US? Then you’re in luck!

In all seriousness, I actually am really happy about my yarn winder. I also don’t have to put it together, which is nice. Still, though, you don’t think they could have shaved off a few bucks just to make up for the possibility that it could be worn or damaged after sitting in a yarn store for a month? I’m a little annoyed, but not enough to really go on about. I am happy! All my yarn will soon be in balls!

I was going to buy a nice wooden winder from BC for about twice as much ($120), but I was worried that I would be banging my knuckles too much because it was a little small. I was also worried that because the winder was on a belt, it would be difficult to maintain. I took it up with The Beau, and he said to go with the plastic. Two votes are enough!
