Not exactly knitting, but still crafty

They’re like tiny portly fairies. I’m glad that the guys are willing to de-manly themselves by holding embroidery needles in the photo, even though it appears they’re holding them the wrong way. That’s one small step for womankind!

The Embroidaries

They’ve also reprinted these!

Some 'Splaining to Do

Yay Magritte reference! I missed this one when it was first printed, so I’m so glad it’s going for another round.

This is not a pipe

Don’t buy too many! I can’t justify buying these just yet so I’m waiting for a bit. But I must have them!

Hair Grows Back

I just got a haircut. It’s a “nice” haircut. And by “nice,” I mean I want to walk back into the salon and up to the woman who cut my hair and shave it off right in front of her to show her just how horrified I am.

Eye TrackerI’ve been busy the past few days getting started for a study I’m conducting for my honours thesis. No knitting news today; I still can’t find my camera battery charger, so you’ll have to settle for an ad for my study. If you live in the Kingston area, give me a shout!

The study I’m conducting is about humour comprehension when reading comic strips. You would either have your eye movements monitored by an eye-tracker, or be asked to talk about the comic strips. The study will also involve filling out some questionnaires about your personal background, but none of this information would be connected to your name. All of your answers will be kept completely confidential.

Please pass this message on to anyone you believe would be interested in participating.

This isn’t knitting related, but I thought I’d share this with you folks. My mom got this last year for Christmas. These are the things kids give to their teachers. I find it absolutely hilarious.

My server is really slow for some reason today, so I apologize. I’ll figure out what’s going on during lunch.

I’ve been doing a lotta knittin’, not a lotta bloggin’ lately. Tonight I’ll finally post the latest installment of Search Engine… Wednesday, and two FOs!

My other blog is frequented predominantly by boys, so I’ve decided to post about boobies on this one. Check Your Boobies is a great site about breast exams and has a nifty little email reminder that lets you know when you’re due for your next exam based on your cycle. Sign up and stay healthy! Yay cancer avoidance!

At Saunshine:

Thanks to the bloggin world, I learn something new everyday. Today is Canada Day. It’s the celebration of the formation of provinces under the name Canada. It’s good to learn about cultures other than your own. Thanks Dorothy.

I think that’s really cute. Oh Saun, aside from the wire tapping in the states and the igloos we live in up here, we’re all pretty much the same. But I appreciate your interest in our culture. Any time you’re up in herre (sic), I’ll totally show you around and then we can eat beaver tails.

Um, they’re not actually beaver tails, don’t worry.

Gmaps PedometerI wrote a blog post on my other blog about Gmaps Pedometer that I thought might be interesting to you folks. If you’re a runner and you hate planning out your routes, this is a great tool. Gmaps Pedometer allows you to plan out a running route using Google Maps, giving you information about the distance travelled, your elevation at each point, and optionally how many calories you’d burn.

Knitter net

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

I’ve been doing a bit of development on this site lately. A little bit of knitting, but certainly more developing. I finished writing a script today that lets me track my favourite blog posts with the click of a button. Based on the recency and frequency of posts I deem awesome, the script produces a custom feed of my favourite blogs. While doing this, I learned:

  • How to deal with date and time functions in PHP
  • How to generate an RSS feed
  • How to make bookmarklets
  • I have too much time on my hands.

Just FYI, I only recently implemented this and barely any times have been recorded, so don’t be offended if you have a zero next to your blog.

I just found this on my computer. I did this about 7 years ago or so. Sure brings back memories.
