Take a goose and gander at this version of the pomatomus sock pattern! Isn’t that cute? I like how the instep mirrors the heel flap. I almost prefer this version!

Side note: this was knit from an abandoned knitting project at a thrift store. I’m always in favour of yarn recycling!

A Sock for my Uncle

A sock

This was the beginning of a Christmas present for one of my uncles. I was going to knit this for Uncle #1, and a fantastically self-designed moose sock would go to Uncle #2. (He once got into a stand-off with a moose. It’s a long story.) Then I suddenly realized that it sucks to get socks for Christmas (unless you’re an obsessive knitter), and I decided to repurpose it for someone else.

The question is this: I still want to make a pair of moose socks for Uncle #2, but Uncle #1 will now be getting a DVD. The inequality of these gifts (the DVD is cooler but has less effort behind it) bothers me. Do I knit the moose socks?

Advice please!

It’s Halloween! And I don’t have a costume. I’m leaning towards going as the Liberal leadership race, which means that once again I’ve chosen a costume that can’t be translated into “slutty blank.” You can’t go as a slutty Liberal leadership race (unless [[Peter MacKay]] crosses the floor, am I right?).

My socktography has been slacking these past few days due to midterms and other projects, and I apologize. To make up for it, here are the socks I’m wearing today:

Socktoberfest Sockspiration #12: MVB (Most Valuable Bear)

These are my Paddington slippers. They’re not technically a sock, but I decided to post them anyway. I find them hilarious, especially when worn with jeans. I like to pretend I’m an urban bear with glamorous friends (Sister Berenstain is such a tramp but we’re still tight) and a successful job as a stockbroker. My bearness is never an issue — not even to the most superstitious of my colleagues — and I’ve only ever been blamed once for a bear market. (In all fairness I did tell all my friends to sell Nortel, but the alleged paw prints on all their accounting documents were never successfully traced back to me.) I’m on the go all the time, and I’m never without my Sidekick. There’s too much honey to eat, and not enough time in the day to eat it in.

I’m not one for dracophilia, but I like the motif on these socks. I used to wear them to exams, as they are red and I am superstitious. I also throw salt over my shoulder at every opportunity, so watch out when I’m cooking!

These are my favourite knee-highs. I like to wear them under jeans with a reserved sweater, so when I’m just walking around it’s like “oh hey, there’s Eve, she’s looking very reserved today” but then I get on my bike and roll up my pant legs and they’re like, “oh now I see where her wackiness has been stored, that makes more sense.”

I wanted to show these because I really like the colour combination. I would never have thought to combine these colours like this, so when I saw them I was immediately inspired to mimic the pattern. And I will; I just have to find the yarn.

These are two socks for which I couldn’t find the mates, so you get two for the price of one post. I know the other turtle sock is around here somewhere.
